What is Thread Sealing Coating?

Thread sealing coating is a pre-applied sealant coating deposited onto threaded components (bolts, screws, pipe plugs, fittings) during manufacturing. The pre-applied coating is deposited and dried before delivery, allowing fasteners to be handled, stored, and assembled without additional sealant application at the assembly point.

Unlike manual sealants — PTFE tape, pipe dope, or liquid compounds — APET's thread sealant coating service ensures precise, consistent sealant placement on every part. During tightening, the coating compresses into thread gaps, filling clearances and forming a barrier against gases and liquids. How Thread Sealing Coating Works — 4 Stages

Pre-Applied Sealant Layer

A controlled layer of sealing compound is deposited on specified threads at the APET facility. The coating is dried, leaving a tack-free film. Fasteners arrive dry-to-touch and immediately ready for use.

Thread Engagement & Compression

As the fastener is torqued into its mating component, the sealant band is compressed between the thread flanks under assembly torque.

Gap Filling

The coating flows into microscopic voids and surface irregularities in the thread interface — displacing air and closing potential leak paths along the helical thread clearance.

Pressure-Resistant Seal Formed

The sealant forms a continuous barrier around the threads, blocking the helical leak path against fluids and gases. No curing required — the assembly can be pressurised immediately.

Principle of Thread Sealing — Technical Theory

When the coated fastener is assembled, the sealing compound is compressed between the mating threads and flows into microscopic clearances. By blocking the helical leak path along the threads, the coating creates a pressure-resistant barrier against liquids and gases.
